Social this Thursday in Wirksworth

This Thursday (12th April), we'll be meeting at Paul & Michelle's house in Wirksworth. This will be a social event - a chance to catch up after the Easter break.

Arrive any time after 6:30pm, bringing drinks and nibbles to share.

And, if you need something to make you smile, take a look at the Easter Linebacker* video below.

* linebacker (LB) is a position in American football that was invented by football coach Fielding H. Yost of the University of Michigan. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up approximately three to five yards (4 m) behind the line of scrimmage, behind the defensive linemen. Linebackers generally align themselves before the ball is snapped by standing upright in a "two point stance" (as opposed to the defensive linemen, who put one or two hands on the ground for a "three point stance" or "four point stance" before the ball is snapped).

From Wikipedia - don't ask me what any of that means though! It makes as much sense as cricket scoring to me...

Church at the White Swan...

White_swan

Well, not quite "church" as you know it!

Next Thursday evening (22nd March), the Belper group will be meeting up at The White Swan on Belper Market Place at 8pm. We'll be supporting a local band "Dippin Da Bristle" who some of us know.

Bring your friends, and enjoy some good music, beer (Marston's), and conversation.

Week beginning 12th March

Celebratingmothers

Thanks again everyone for yesterday. The whole setting up and clearing down work seemed to go very smoothly! Only two more weeks to go!

On Thursday we'll be meeting together at Rosie's house, from 7:30-9:30pm. Would anyone like to volunteer to lead worship? Or to lead the discussion?

On Sunday, don't forget it's the special Celebrating Mothers event at County Hall, at 10:30am.

Video diary of Dave, Gill & Phil's trip to India - February 2012

Church in the Peak has had a long association with the church in India.

The video below was made after the trip that Dave, Gill and Phil made in February 2012 to serve some of the Newfrontiers churches in India.

In the video you'll see shots from the Disha Centre in Honaga. This is a day care centre for physically disabled children launched by the Abundant Life Church in Belgaum, South India.

Week beginning 5th March 2012

Thanks to everyone for the support at the Salsa Party last night, and this morning on setting up and welcoming!

There were over 60 people at the party, all having a terrific time. We'll hopefully get some photos online soon. The team at the Strutt Centre were extremely helpful, and Cleon from Cross Body Leads was a fantastic teacher/DJ!

We'll be asking for feedback over the next few weeks, to think about how we build on the experience, and whether this is something, as a group, we think is worthwhile running again.

Next week, on Thursday, we'll be joining with the rest of the Church in the Peak groups at the Riverside in Matlock for our monthly family news night, so there's no group meeting in Belper.

It'd be good to see as many people as possible there on Thursday.

Cheers,

Mark

Activities for week beginning 27th February

[UPDATE: Ignore the reference to March in the URL. This post really is about w/b 27th Feb]

It's going to be a busy week...

On Tuesday, those who can will meet at Mark & Sarah's to pray about all the stuff that's happening over the next month or two.

On Thursday, we'll be at Rosie's house...
  • for worship
  • to put the finishing touches to the Salsa Party
  • to be briefed by Gill on the jobs we need to pick up as part of our serving at church during March (it's OK, if we need help we can call it in!)
On Saturday it's the Salsa Party. Please keep inviting your friends, colleagues etc. It looks like it's going to be a great evening.

Then, on Sunday, it's an early start as we're on setting up / serving duty.

Phew!

Activity during week beginning 20th February

With the Salsa Party in just over a week's time, we'll be putting the finishing touches together to make this a really fun evening!

On Tuesday night, those that can will be meeting at Tim & Sarah's at 7:30pm for 45 minutes of prayer about Belper and our group.

On Thursday it's our normal group night, at Mark & Sarah's, where we'll be discussing Phil's talk about the practical outworking's of being devoted to Jesus. In particular, we'll be looking at Acts 2:22-47:

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

There's a lot in there to challenge, and encourage, us.

All the best,

Mark
